Outliers in almost all of The Class in The World
About a few days ago, I read a page that made by Rara Sekar and Ben Laksana. They gave suggestion about some books that needed to read for person that learn about education. I downloaded some books and I read one of them, Ideology and Curriculum 3rd Edition. I think this will be a difficult book, but it is not. And I find a story that similar to my story.
Michael W. Apel wrote a story about his student, named Joseph. Joseph was a student that can not promoted to the next grade. He negotiated to Michael to give him chance. But Michael just a teacher like another, so he could not help Joseph. Start with that, Joseph experienced bad cycle and the last Michael knew the story, Joseph was in a prison. It was the same with my student, his name is so unique, I love to write the unique name, but I can not, cause may be someone that know him will read this passage. I give him a name, Alam.
I was a private teacher when I was at Secondary High School and Alan is one of my students. He has some temperament. I ever heard that he often attacks their friends and sometimes teacher when he mad. One time, I made him mad, I was afraid. Surprisingly, instead of bombarding, he was crying. I relieved but feel guilty. He is diligent, but he can not control his emotion. Alam was still be Alam. He grew up until I heard the last news that he gets out from Secondary High School because of he can not make friend. And his activity in his home is just lay down and play Mobile Legend.
From Joseph and Alam story, I just think that I need to share if there is another Alam and Joseph in another place. I think it is not a simple problem, but system problem. It is an outliers case. But for human, the system must be holistic. When it is still keeping error we must find out some solutions to fix it. And people always ask me, what is the solution? Some of them says, instead of we just do protest, we need to find the solution. And I will answer, before we give solution, we must know the exact problem. When we find the base problem, we can fix it. But it doesn’t mean that we just wait until we know the exact problem. From Alam story, at least we know that the teacher must be sensitive of student problem and we try to appreciate their ability and their weakness.
I will continue to read the book. Like Michael, He writes his book because Joseph. I will learn and write about education and Alam is one of some reasons.
